Join us for 7 days and 6 nights in the small Mexican fishing village and kiteboarding mecca of La Ventana, Baja California Sur. This retreat is specifically designed to disconnect you from technology and stress and reconnect you with nature, the ocean, the raw environment of Baja, new friends and yourself with a lot of fun along the way. Through yoga, meditation, mindfulness teachings, and exhilarating activities, you will practice mindfulness and presence, improve your listening skills, explore self discovery and self care, and dive into nutrition and wellness topics while tech detoxing and enjoying a little bit of Unhustle™ in your life. You can opt in or opt out of everything on the retreat and just enjoy time to yourself while having fun.

Mindfulness is a way of living life more fully and with a greater sense of wellbeing. Among its theorized benefits are self-control, objectivity, affect tolerance, enhanced flexibility, equanimity, improved concentration and mental clarity, emotional intelligence and the ability to relate to others and one’s self with kindness, acceptance and compassion. By practicing mindfulness, you will be not only be able to tap into being present this week but establish your own practice for when you return home.

Meet the Instructors

This is not your typical retreat. And these are not your average instructors. Our experienced facilitators will make sure to provide an unforgettable experience and long-lasting relationships to continue your learning even after the retreat is over. We work with and support local guides and instructors but also bring in qualified people from all over the world.

Milena Regos

Milena is the co-founder of Unhustle™ and a Human Potential Coach. A 20+ years digital marketer who experienced burnout from too much screen time, she understands entrepreneur's challenges first hand. Sharing her time between Lake Tahoe and La Ventana, her and her husband are on a mission to improve people's lives through the Unhustle™ lifestyle movement, transformational retreats like this one and Human Potential Coaching. She loves to spend time with her husband and her dog Taz, unhustling.

Erin Woo

Erin Maloney Woo, M.Ed., is an Adjunct Teacher at the Mindfulness Center at the Brown University School of Public Health, where she specializes in designing and leading mindfulness programs for educators and corporate clients. She is deeply interested in helping people cultivate self awareness, self-compassion, kindness and creativity. In addition to her work at Brown, she is on the Adjunct Faculty at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and at NHTI Community College. At Mindful Schools, Erin is a Guiding Teacher in the Mindful Teacher Certification Program. Erin leads retreats and teaches courses in a variety of settings. She calls home Massachusetts, USA.

Marcela Ley

Marcela is the owner of Casa Tara. To her, teaching yoga became a way of helping herself and others find balance in life. Her journey took her to India and Thailand to learn not only yoga but also meditation. Casa Tara is the materialization of her dream to welcome those who needed to get away from the agitated city life to rest and restore, by getting in touch with nature and their souls. Marcela's other passion is Matias, her son.

Day by Day Program

Where Sierra de la Laguna mountain range meets the Sea of Cortez, we’ll learn how to live a mindful life this week and into the future. Through a series of mindfulness discussions and practices, gentle yoga, beach walks, self care practices, human potential coaching and transformational activities (swimming with whale sharks) we’ll learn how to live our best lives.

  • Beach walk/run 7am on your own
  • Yoga class 8am – 9:15am at Casa Tara with Marcela. Class will be modified to fit participants level.
  • Breakfast 9:30am – 10:30am
  • Mindfulness Discussion with Erin 11:00am – 12:30pm
  • Lunch at Casa Tara 1pm – 2pm
  • Mindfulness Discussion with Erin 3pm – 4pm – Accessing the Wisdom of the Body – Western culture is heavily reliant on the intellect. In valuing the mind so strongly, we neglect the wisdom contained within our bodies, in fact many of us are cut off from it entirely. As we begin to reinhabit our bodies more fully, we unearth this wisdom.
  • Time for self – care 4pm on
  • Get pampered with a massage at Casa Tara Spa 
  • Read a book

Activities

Baja is an amazing playground and we will explore its natural beauty, above and under water. These activities are included in the retreat cost, however if you don’t feel like participating at any one of them, that’s OK too.

Beach Fire Love Circle Evening Welcome Ceremony

Gather around a huge bonfire overlooking the Sea of Cortez. We would engage in a discussion on self-compassion, self-care and love and follow up with a short meditation. This ceremony kicks off the retreat.

Beach Walk Morning

Breath, Body, Sounds Beach Walk and Walking Meditation

Enjoy a long walk on the beach upon rising, watch the sunrise and practice mindfulness along the way. Notice your breath, notice how your body moves and become aware of the sounds around you – the birds around you, the waves in your feet, the sand on our feet, the wind on your face. Learn how to get centered and practice instant presence, a practice you can take home with you to and use when you need to calm down, destress, or before an important business meeting.

Whale Shark Outing, Swim with Sea Lions and picnic at Balandra Beach

Balandra beach is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico. Spend a day outing to La Paz where you can snorkel with whale sharks, considered the gentle giants of the ocean. Practice your breathing. A short boat ride takes you there. After that, head over to Balandra beach a secluded beach with turquoise water. Snorkel with the playful sea lions for a while. Enjoy a picnic on the beach with fresh seafood and authentic Mexican dishes. The entire trip takes about 7 hours. An exhilarating experience you’ll never forget.

Healthy Cooking Workshop and Mindful Eating at Moringa Restaurant

Spend a few hours shopping for food at the Farmer’s Market and then prepare your own food with the help of the Moringa Restaurant chef (onsite restaurant). Learn different ways to prepare plant based and pescatarian food and practice mindful eating at the end.

Accommodations

The Venue

La Ventana, located in Baja California South, is about 2.5 hours from Cabo San Lucas on the friendly Sea of Cortez where the desert meets the ocean. Abundant marine life, stretches of empty beaches, the slow pace of Mexican life and the consistent afternoon wind creates a mecca for wind sport enthusiasts.

As you enter the Casa Tara grounds you start to feel your stress level going down. With its Mediterranean-style architecture, Asian furnishings, desert gardens and careful interior design you’ll feel ready for a week of self care. Casa Tara’s privileged beachfront location – overlooking the beautiful Sea of Cortez, right across the water from Cerralvo Island – assure ocean views from all rooms and common areas.

The Moringa restaurant onsite offers expansive ocean and pool views. Two yoga shalas (outdoor and indoor) are the perfect environment for movement and meditation sessions. The onsite Kahlal spa will provide the much needed space for relaxation and self care. All you need to do is check into your room and let the white space wash away all your worries. You are here.

You pull up to the door and notice the intricate craftsmanship and imagine the love that went into designing and building this beautiful place in Baja. With spectacular views out every window, you can’t decide where to focus your eyes – inside on the beautiful furnishings, lovely decorated rooms, or outside at the expansive Sea of Cortez waters, Isla Cerralvo sunrises to die for and beautiful sunsets.

Your private room includes a custom- crafted quilt, Asian decor, organic toiletries, safe deposit box, A/C ceiling fan. All rooms are double occupancy, with two beds in the room. Please specify if there is someone you prefer to room with, otherwise it will be filled by the next registrant or you can opt-in for a single occupancy room.

Casa Tara Retreat is a boutique beach front resort. Rooms are unique in view and location and will be assigned based on those who register first.

Casa Tara has two yoga studios (outdoor and indoor) and this is where we'll practice yoga and mindfulness.

Food

All meals will be cooked at Moringa Restaurant, the on-site ocean view restaurant. The chef uses fresh and local ingredients with fresh seafood options from a local source. Watching the sunset from the terrace of the Moringa is the best way to end the day. Your heart is filled with content from the day and your body is tired from having an active day in the sunshine. Mind, body and soul singing in harmony and content. You can’t help but smile looking back at the day you just had in La Ventana, another completely transformative experience. 

We will use Moringa restaurant and chef for our cooking class experience. You will be fueling your body with tasty local vegetables, and food that has been prepared to make you feel better and live longer. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated. 

Breakfast consists of authentic Mexican dishes, or yogurt, fruit, green juice, local coffee, homemade granola or eggs and bacon. Lunch is soups, salads, ceviche, chiles rellenos and tacos. Dinner is salads, chicken, fish, vegetables, tacos and tostadas and of course freshly made desert.

Only 10 Registration Spots are Available (based on double occupancy)

Single $3,445 Double $2,889

Cost is per person and includes the Mindfulness Guidance and Human Potential Coaching. You can opt in for additional pre retreat human potential coaching and mindfulness practice or post retreat coaching and mindfulness at additional cost.

Registration Terms and Conditions

  • $1000 deposit is required to keep your registration. All deposits are non-refundable as they are used to secure lodging, facilities and meals. Full payment is recommended.
  • Remaining amount is due in full 60 days prior to retreat.

Cancellation Policy

All deposits are non refundable. The remaining balance (total price minus deposit) is due 60 days before the retreat start date.
The remaining balance is non-refundable once paid. We reserve the right to cancel the retreat if we don’t meet our minimum participants. You will be notified 30 days prior and you will be refunded or you can apply it to another event with Unhustle.

People who can’t deal with a slow pace (this is a retreat in Mexico where everything takes longer than what is customary in the US, which is actually great since we are practicing mindfulness). People who can’t deal with things changing outside of our control (we are all about learning to stay present, breathe and being able to react to any situation life throws us). People with stiff personalities. People who can’t disconnect from their devices for long periods of time. We encourage tech free time throughout the retreat and can turn off the wifi in your room upon request. Keep in mind that wifi in Baja is slow. You may be able to check in for 30 min each morning although we encourage that you leave your technology on airplane mode for a week.
