Plus a few work from home strategies from female entrepreneurs

Our work life boundaries have been blurred even more. We are working longer hours and accomplishing less. Here are a few work from home strategies to help you stay focused and feel like you still have a life.

Start slow

Most of us spend our days in high gear. Take a few minutes for yourself in the morning to be more intentional and counterbalance the rest of the day. Making your bed in the morning will help you feel like you’ve accomplished something right away. Start the day without your phone to avoid letting your attention get hijacked by news, emails, and social media. Instead, take time to meditate, read, spend time in nature, do some gentle movement, exercise, and fuel your body and brain for the day. Then, take a few minutes to plan your day.

Have a routine

Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg knows she needs at least seven hours of sleep a night. And while working from home, she says it’s essential to keep up a daily routine, which includes getting rest and exercise.

Work in a flow

Minimize distractions and work in a flow to reduce the number of hours you put in. If you can, designate space where you work. Focus on your most important projects first in the morning and batch work to minimize context switching, which kills your productivity. Take regular breaks

It’s easy to get too focused on work and forget to take breaks. Try to take a 10 min break every hour, drink some water or go for a short walk. Even doing ten squats or a few pushups can help. If you tend to forget, set your alarm. Cisneros CEO Adriana Cisneros is breaking up her day by exercising midday or running around with her kids.

Shut it down

Set a time when you turn work off so you can fully recover before the next day. Exposure to blue light from screens affects sleep. Minimize your blue light and dim lights in the house to prepare your body and brain for sleep.
