You did everything right.
So why does something
still feel off?

You followed the rules. You earned the results.
And you've started wondering if you were playing the wrong game all along.

It's 5am on a Monday.
You're already behind.

The emails start before you get out of bed. Your calendar is a wall of back-to-back meetings. The metrics need reviewing. The team needs leading. The strategy needs refining. And underneath it all, there's a nagging question you push away because there's no time for it: Is this what my life is for?

Hustle culture gave you a simple equation: work harder, achieve more, earn approval, feel worthy. Repeat. But the equation is broken. Knowledge workers are burning out at record rates. Engagement is collapsing. Loneliness and anxiety are rising. And AI is accelerating everything — doing the tasks faster, making the busyness worse, and making the human question more urgent than ever.

The wellness programs aren't working. The productivity tools aren't working. Work-life balance keeps work first in the very phrase. The Default Path keeps speeding up. And the humans running it are quietly cracking and breaking down.

There's another way. It doesn't ask you to quit your job, move to a fishing village, or dismantle everything you've built. It asks something harder and more interesting: to refuse the false choice between success and sanity, between ambition and actually being alive, between work and wellbeing.

That's Unhustle.

Milena Miteva-Regos has been where you are. And she found another way.

I built the Default Path from the inside.
Then I found the exit.

For 23 years, I worked as a CMO and marketing strategist — building brands, launching campaigns, helping companies grow faster, louder, harder. I was good at it. And I helped make hustle culture aspirational for a generation of ambitious people who didn't know yet what it would cost them.

October 31, 2013. Thirty thousand feet in the air, somewhere between Toronto and Reno. The best day of my career and the worst day of my life.

I pulled a cocktail napkin from under my ginger ale and scribbled five numbers. Work: 100%. Money: 75%. Love: 25%. Health: 0%. Play: 0%. One minute. One napkin. My whole life on a square of paper.

A year later, learning to kiteboard in the Sea of Cortez, I had a Baja Aha. That moment became a decade-long search for a different way forward — three hundred conversations with founders, CEOs, rebels, and people who stopped following the default road and built something real. Something sustainable. A counterintuitive approach to how we live, work, and lead.

Eventually: this book. This work. This life.

The napkin moment — October 31, 2013

30,000 feet above ground.
Somewhere between Toronto and Reno.
October 31, 2013.

Milena is not some kind of wellness guru with perfect morning routines and clear boundaries. She is someone who fed the system, got consumed by it, suffered the consequences, and did the hard work of finding another way.
