Two weeks ago, a friend of mine and I went on a road trip to Cabo in search of a desk so I can set up my home office. We didn’t find one but on the way back, following our curiosity, we had a pleasant surprise.
We stopped in San Bartolo, a little Mexican village with a couple of street stands and a small restaurant. Someone had told us about a new ice cream shop that had opened up worth a visit.
A ranchero, with deep wrinkles and sombrero, helped us find the place:
“Go up the dirt road, turn right, after the second topete look to the right. You can’t miss Susie’s place,” – his eyes lit up when he grinned and showed us a mouth with half missing teeth.
5 min later we stood in front of Zopilotes.
“Is Unhustle a privilege?” is a question I answer frequently. Here’s the Unhustle Mini Playbook for how to create relaxed success, based on the story of Zopilote’s.
You can fit your work into your good life and do the work that energizes you instead of depletes you.
Unfortunately, too many people get stuck in a job or life they don’t love but are too afraid to do anything about it.
Some of the reasons are:
You can redefine what success looks like. Everyone has their version of success. For me, success is designing a life you love so you can live in a place you love, surround yourself with people you love, and do the work that brings you joy on your terms.
And this is exactly what Susie and her husband did.
You can create relaxed success on your terms.
Susie’s husband and she bought a house, sight unseen in a country far away from home. They moved to a small Mexican village, so small that if you blink, you miss it.
Life was tough at the beginning but they stuck it out with the help of plenty of margaritas. They learned to accept things they didn’t understand, learned the language, and learned that “Manana” doesn’t not mean tomorrow.
Eventually, the idea for an ice cream shop was born and the local birds “Zopilotes” that brought her so much peace and joy while enjoying a cocktail on the deck, became the name for her new business.
Steal this Unhustle mini playbook and create your own version of paradise.
Here’s how:
This is 2 scoops of ice cream!
3. Create a business on your terms. Who says you have to work 14 hours in order to be successful? Design a business that fits your lifestyle instead of the other way around. Here are Susie’s working hours.
And voila! You have created relaxed success!
This ice cream is better than anything I have tasted so far. If she wants to be the next Ben & Jerry’s she can easily do it. You saw it first here.
